Young, Fabulous & Broke: Living 5x the Luxe on a Buck!

La PETITE Blog 2012
Mon petites, can I share  a secret with you? I have an inescapable desire for all things luxe however my bank account tells another story! So to be responsible and save for the fab life I will surely live one day I have accepted the fact for the time being I am young, fabulous, & broke. Like millions of other haute dames and gents in my same situation; I am living my life the best way possible while being as resourceful as can be. Meaning mon petites,  opening a High Yield Free Checking account like the those offered at Capital One Bank which provides 5x the interest rate than the national average (Ka-Ching!$!). I am a firm believer that no deed should go unrewarded so I splurged (reasonably) at 5 of the hautest wallet friendly places in town and kind enough to share it all with you!

Champagne dreams on a tap water budget.
As some of you might know my day job (I'm a fashion stylist) has afforded me some luxuries that I would not be privy to otherwise and I appreciate each and every opportunity! One luxury that I love to indulge in is going to various designer showrooms (like Dolce and Gabanna's pictured above) estates, and the over the top sets then go home a re-create it on a little to nothing budget. How do I transform my Brooklyn abode to a Kelly Wearstler esque palace of my dreams? By scoring the hautest finds at the World Famous Bobby's Department! Bobby's located in Flatbush,Brooklyn -  is the mecca for finding uber chic finds that are so wallet friendly you will be amazed (Homegoods got nothing on Bobby's...NOTHING!) even better it has a second location right across the street that sells clothes too - score!

Cheap Thrill: Home Decor, Linens, Clothing and Beauty Products - literally everything under the Sun!

Saving money! I'll drink to that!
Ok kids, after a long week of schlepping, saving coins and styling lives I need to unwind- my friends and I head over to the Painted Pot an adorable art studio where you can paint various ceramics (I adore painting plates and jewelry boxes - great gifting items!), mosaics and the pièce de résistance? You can bring your own bottle- sip, chat and paint to your heart's content.

Who needs a 'speedy' when you can have a one of a kind without the hefty price tag?
For New Yorkers especially Brooklynites the summer of 2012 was all about Dekalb Market - a ultra hip compound located in Downtown Brooklyn that offered a variety of shops (made from salvaged shipping containers I might add - COOL!) from farmer's markets, to one of a kind finds like the tres chic FLOURISH ACCESSORIES. The shop's Creative Director - Sharrell Williams, celebrity stylist, interior, home decor and accessories designer is a girl on a budget's dream come true! Her insane knowledge of trends and access to the best of the best from jewelry to home furnishing is truly mind-blowing as is the high-fashion bargains that can't be found anywhere else. Added bonus you can bring FLOURISH to you and your girlfriends and host an majorly haute bash where the host (i.e. YOU) scores goodies! What's not to love?

Cheap Thrill: Hard to find accessories, handbags and home decor! Host FLOURISH ACCESSORIES parties and be rewarded with free swag!

The dapper ambiance at Dressler in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Now mon petites, just because I'm living la vida budget does  not mean I eat off the dollar menu (that stuff will kill you!) - every now and then I like to put on my 6inch heels (more on that later) and hit the town. My favorite Luxe on a Buck place is DRESSLER, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - the cozy New American restaurant has such an alluring atmosphere you will lose track of the time and just revel in delight. The food and cocktails are delish and everything is seasonal and locally grown - you get to indulge without sacrificing your budget (your waistline is a whole other matter)!
DAYBOAT SCALLOPS with  Maple Celery Root Puree, Salsify, Wild Mushrooms, Sunchokes, Pancetta & White Truffle Oil - YUM!

Mon petites, don't judge me - a girl knows how to shop.... at clearance sales!
Darlings don't believe the hype! All women (and some men) are created equal  when it comes to strutting your stuff in a fabulous pair of 7' Christian Louboutin's! For novices or those who fear the dreaded HEEL walking and looking good can seem impossible. In comes LEGWORK, the genius workshop and workout DVD specifically designed to be done in high heels will instantly increase your sex kitten factor, grace, and confidence when in heels. You will learn proper posture techniques, warm ups and overall knowledge on how to be completely functional in a pair of haute heels. You can attend the workshop in person (or via webcam) and transform yourself from a tiptoeing maiden to a full-fledged haute heeled Glamazon. It's an investment in yourself - surely the return is worth it's weight in gold!
