Haute Body Report: The Truth About Weightlifting!

photo by David LaChapelle, Beauty in Vogue, November 2004

Every time I hear a woman proclaim her disdain for weightlifting I literally want to scream! Don't believe the hype mon petites, you will NOT get to HeMan proportions if you lift weights (can I get an AMEN!). With that said the fitness experts over at has shared some myth busting truths about weightlifting.

Read on for the truth about common muscle myths courtesy of the Life by DailyBurn team, so you can be better informed next time you head to the weight rack.

1. Myth: Lifting weights will make you bulk upThis is one of the biggest concerns for women considering starting a weightlifting program, says Rachel Cosgrove, CSCS, author of The Female Body Breakthrough. But unless you’re also consuming a ton more calories, your muscles will only grow to a healthy, normal level that promotes an increased metabolism. “You have to really work for every ounce of muscle that you gain, and it’s not as easy as most women think to sprout big muscles,” she says.

Truth: With proper nutrition, lifting weights will create a leaner physique — not a bulkier one.

2. Myth: Muscle turns to fat if you stop lifting
Some serious magic would have to happen for muscle to turn into fat, as they’re two completely different things, says Cosgrove. “Muscle never turns into fat, and fat never turns into muscle,” she says. Muscle will, on the other hand, help you burn fat. Research has found that an intense bought of strength training results in more calories burned in the 16 to 24 hours after your training session ends.

Truth: Your muscle won’t turn into flab if you take some time off, and having muscle will actually help you burn fat.

3. Myth: It’s best to work one muscle group a day
You’ve probably overheard locker room chatter about it being “back day” or “leg day,” but unless you’re a bodybuilder (or dedicated lifter) it’s not always beneficial to adopt this schedule. Michael Carozza, owner of Carozza Fitness in Connecticut, suggests high-intensity interval training and circuit training, which are designed to help build muscle, increase aerobic capacity, burn calories and improve recovery time. Whatever program you choose, just keep in mind that muscles typically need about a day to recover, says Kelvin Gary, owner of Body Space Fitness in New York City, so it’s important to vary workouts so you aren’t doing the same full-body workout each day.

Truth: Choose compound exercises that work more than one muscle group at a time (like squats, pull-ups and deadlifts) for a more effective workout in a shorter period of time.

There's nothing like buying vintage, the hunt in itself is a thrill and when you find gems (as I often do via it's always triumphant.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Get thrifty (pun intended)! No matter if you are on the search for one-of-a-kind couture pieces are period looks don't get scared to get down and dirty. Look at the garment, really look at it and see if it is worth the expense (no matter how cheap we mean inexpensive it is). There are no rules when you want to express yourself. It shoes, the latest bags and other ''trends'' have no meaning to you. While you love to make a statement it's more then just a necklace. You don't let  clothes speak for you, yet you look declares attention!

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Just like the system you slash, cut up and pin up your clothes with abandon. You make a Mickey Mouse t-shirt hardcore there's no rules with you're a Punk so why start now?

We have all seen her (unless - of course you are her), that confident , fiery specimen of a DIVA who exudes sex but commands respect from all those in her vicinity. Her wardrobe is a vast collection of frocks  so intoxicating, enchanting and uninhibited that she would make Dita herself blush.
HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Don't be afraid of your body! Being a Dame comes with great responsibility and that mon petites, means wearing proper undergarments! It's very simple,  rock your frocks but be certain that the fit is correct and the silhouette compliments your frame.

You exude that boyish charm all the while celebrating all things female and we love you for it! Your flats are chic, your denim all the more stellar and those quirky button downs always seem to work.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: Don't go for the norm with it comes to your essential pieces - try pattern jeans, interesting patterns with your tops and explore your options with your flats. Anything goes!

HAUTE BODY REPORT: 5 Tips On Staying Sleek & Smooth by Labor Day & Beyond!

Photographed by Mikael Jansson  | VOGUE

Where has the time gone? Just a few weeks ago we here at

LPB were lamenting on how we need to get fit and trim for

bikini season and alas here we are in the very mist of

summer and with that comes the need to stay glowing,

hydrated and hair free! Lucky for us mon petites, we have

the perfect solution thanks to 'Waxer to the Stars' Noemi

Grupenmager, Founder & CEO of Uni K Wax Centers.

Here are 5 Haute Tips on staying sleek and smooth for

Labor Day & Beyond. Thank us later...

1)       Don’t get stuck with bumps or redness – Choose the right type of wax for your skin! One thing that many people don’t know is the difference between hard wax, strip wax and elastic wax, or that elastic wax even exists! Strip wax, which is the most popular wax used, makes for a tedious, slow and painful procedure, often leaving the skin feeling sticky. Hard waxes break and crack, making the wax difficult to remove. But elastic wax stretches to remove hair without strips causing less of a pull to the skin, meaning a more comfortable removal experience ideal for sensitive skin. Elastic wax is applied at body temperature, whereas hard wax, if too hot, can be uncomfortable and sometimes can even burn the skin. Uni K Wax Centers’ elastic wax is made out of all natural ingredients. Elastic wax not only removes hair from the root for long-lasting hair removal, it also exfoliates and softens leaving skin as smooth as silk. Perfect for getting your weekend glow on!

 2)       Labor Day weekend often means drinking alcohol, indulging in caffeine and basking in the sun. Enjoy it all, but be sure to get your wax before these festivities begin. Alcohol and stimulants like caffeine tighten pores making waxing more painful and less effective, and sunburns make skin too sensitive for proper hair removal. Avoid these no-nos 12-24 hours before getting waxed to ensure an effective, more relaxing experience. Instead, hydrate inside and out with water and moisturizers, which will maximize hair removal for a long lasting wax.
