Can You Keep A Secret?

Mon petites, lately I have been indulging in  some self-gratifying vices so to speak. Now before you lovely dames and gents start to judge it’s not what you think - I have been taking some extra ‘moi time’ as of late listening to Cole Porter tunes as I luxuriate in some at home spa treatments and  shop online for vintage furs - I end my ‘moi time’ with baking some beyond mouthwatering and ambrosial desserts I share with my flatmates (i.e. my sisters).

For the past year I have gone from taking time out for R&R every few months and now I seldom go a week without whipping up some patisserie of sorts from meringues, gateaux and assortments of macarons as I acquire a haute fox fur (or two) and treat this epidermis of mine.   Mon petites, I have to admit - Cole Porter is one of the finest maestro to have ever lived. His songs have lasted the test of time and the tunes really sooth the souls. There isn’t a Cole Porter rendition I don’t love and when times get tough I play his beautiful catalogue and get swept away in a world of  undulated love and intimacy. Add that spa treatments and mon petite you are in heaven. There is something about the aria of Cole Porter and treating your skin at the same time that is just divine - try it and thank me later!

These guilty pleasures of mine might seem a bit peculiar to some - I have been asked a plethora of times how is baking French patisseries & shopping for fur coats relaxing but for me it’s an art form that takes skill, know-how and diligence to see a recipe to fruition or find an out of this world deal (trust me mon petites I have!) . From the inception of the recipe to seeing it to fruition helps me focus on something besides my work, personal affairs (pun intended!) and the drudgery of everyday life. The added bonus is unlike art - I can make my cake and eat it too! With the furs - there’s really no explanation needed - its luxurious and I have no qualms about my fur collection whatsoever (judge me not people!).

Come this June, I will have another guilty pleasure that will not compromise my waist line or wallet courtesy of ABC! It’s no secret how I love a haute salacious tale or two and I am absolutely over the moon that the haute UK series ‘Mistresses’ has made it stateside (fingers crossed ‘Footballers Wives’ is on it’s way too)! Here’s the rundown on the haute show :  "Four friends. Four hearts. 13 weeks of seduction. Based on the hit UK television series of the same name, "Mistresses" is a provocative and thrilling drama about the scandalous lives of a sexy and sassy group of four girlfriends, each on her own path to self-discovery. These four friends find support and guidance with each other as they brave their turbulent journeys and life's storms of excitement, secrecy and betrayal, all the while bound by the complex relationships they've created. "Mistresses" stars Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes and Jes Macallan. Don't miss the series premiere Monday, June 3rd at 10|9c on ABC after an all-new "The Bachelorette.”

Now mon petites, my ‘moi time’ may not seem as relaxing or indulgent to some but it’s mine and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have learned that guilty pleasures are to be luxuriated with not judgement at all! The next time your week seems like it will never end play some Porter, have a bite or two of your favorite dessert and live... you know I will!

Photos Courtesy of Style.com
Not a fan of your God-given texture? Well Tracee Ellis Ross -  actress, daughter of the Legendary MISS DIANA ROSS, thespian and all round aesthete is here to testify that you are not alone! No matter what your hair woe is from frizz, flatness, coarseness, unruly curls, or all of the above, it only takes true acceptance and a bit of know-how to get the most gorgeous hair for you. TER was inspired to address this issue after an instagram post of mane envy was addressed to her. While I am natural, I am not privy or up to date with all the the latest brouhaha in the mane arena but I am glad she spoke up about her own issues with maintaining her hair and growing to accept her tresses for what they are (and aren't). Take a peek at her stirring response to the issue and be sure to check out her website traceeellisross.com it's a must read!
